TecDoc is the catalogue data standard of the independent automotive aftermarket, published by TecAlliance: it normalises how parts are described, their technical criteria and their applicability to vehicles. It is the data infrastructure behind most electronic parts catalogues on the market — a licensed standard, not a public database.

What TecDoc brings is a shared language. Without it, every parts manufacturer would describe its products in its own nomenclature and no equivalence could be computed across the market. With it, a distributor can present offers from dozens of brands side by side against the same vehicle criteria.
What TecDoc does not bring: stock, price or availability. Those belong to the distributor and live in its ERP. A catalogue says what can fit; only the ERP says what actually ships today, and at what price.
Access is licensed by TecAlliance. A distributor uses the data under its own licence, and a software partner plugging into it operates within that licence — what the trade calls BYOL. No third-party tool "provides" TecDoc: it connects on behalf of whoever holds the right.
The trap
Believing a TecDoc catalogue decides on its own. It lists applicable candidates; it knows nothing of the vehicle's history, the part already fitted, or the deadline. The decision stays at the counter.

Does TecDoc contain prices?
No. The standard carries technical descriptions and part applicability. Prices, discounts and availability belong to the distributor and live in its management system.
What is the difference between TecDoc and TecRMI?
TecDoc describes parts and their applicability. TecRMI carries workshop data: repair times, procedures, service schedules. Two distinct reference systems, two distinct licences.
